Quantum fears are limiting Bitcoin’s growth, says Stacks founder

Stacks founder Muneeb Ali has warned that institutional investment in Bitcoin is being hampered by concerns over the network’s long-term security against quantum computing attacks.
In an interview on Cointelegraph’s Chain Reaction podcast, Ali stated that “there is already a ceiling on the growth of Bitcoin because of quantum fears.” He argued that risk-averse institutions may delay major Bitcoin allocations until developers establish a credible roadmap for transitioning to quantum-resistant cryptography.
Ali pointed to 2030 as a target date for such a transition, citing guidance from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He warned that if meaningful progress is not made by 2028, Bitcoin could enter a period of heightened risk, especially as advances in artificial intelligence could accelerate quantum computer development.
While acknowledging that some in the Bitcoin community view the quantum threat as distant, Ali contended that the uncertainty itself is damaging. He noted that developers are exploring solutions, including recent research by StarkWare that reduced the estimated cost of preparing a quantum-resistant transaction.
