Bitcoin ETFs Could Triple Gold ETFs as Younger Investors Mature

Bitcoin ETFs triple gold — Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas predicts that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs could ultimately hold three times the assets under management of their gold counterparts as the asset matures and younger generations adopt it.

Speaking to Bitcoin Magazine TV on Thursday, Balchunas framed Bitcoin as “gold as a teenager,” contrasting its 17-year history with gold’s millennia. He argued that as younger investors who grew up with Bitcoin accumulate wealth and seek a store of value, they will fuel massive growth for the ETFs, which launched in 2024 and already manage nearly $100 billion.

Balchunas linked the potential shift to a broader “debasement trade,” where investors seek non-yielding assets like Bitcoin and gold amid government spending and currency weakness. He suggested Bitcoin’s censorship resistance and the government’s inability to confiscate it make it a compelling alternative for generations rebelling against fiscal policy.

The analyst also pointed to declining volatility as a key catalyst for institutional adoption. He noted Bitcoin had its least volatile year in 2025 and predicted that as its price action stabilizes further, large institutions will view it as a reliable store of value and safe-haven asset.
