BlackRock files for new Bitcoin ETF offering downside protection

20221005_Blackrock

Investment giant BlackRock has filed with the SEC for a new Bitcoin exchange-traded fund designed to provide investors with downside protection alongside upside exposure to its existing iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).

The filing, submitted on October 20, 2026, marks BlackRock’s third fund tied directly to Bitcoin. The proposed fund would invest substantially all of its assets in IBIT shares.

According to the registration statement, the fund aims to offer a measure of capital protection against Bitcoin’s price volatility while maintaining exposure to its potential gains. The structure is intended for investors seeking a regulated, lower-risk avenue into the cryptocurrency.

The move underscores BlackRock’s continued expansion of its digital asset product suite following the successful launch and growth of its spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT. The filing is now subject to review by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
