Morgan Stanley’s Amy Oldenburg Backs Bitcoin’s Digital Gold Rationale

Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s Amy Oldenburg has publicly endorsed Bitcoin‘s “digital gold” investment case, calling it a strong rationale while outlining key factors for its maturation as a mainstream asset.
In an interview, Oldenburg stated that for Bitcoin to fully realize its potential as a portfolio diversifier akin to gold, it must trade more like a safe-haven asset and less like a risk-on technology stock. She emphasized that her firm’s outlook is not defined by short-term price moves or single economic data points, taking a long-term view on the asset’s development.
Oldenburg discussed several dynamics influencing Bitcoin demand, including its correlation with gold, the role of stablecoins, and concerns over inflation and quantum computing. She also highlighted Morgan Stanley’s ongoing assessment of these risks and opportunities through its internal Digital Asset Lab.
Furthermore, she pointed to the transformative potential of broader asset tokenization and the future role of AI agents in an “agentic economy” as significant long-term trends for the digital asset space.
