Arkham CEO Analyzes $1 Billion U.S. Government Bitcoin Transfer

U.S. Government Bitcoin — The CEO of blockchain intelligence firm Arkham has commented on the recent movement of roughly $1 billion in Bitcoin from a U.S. government-linked wallet, a transaction that has sparked market speculation about a potential sale.
Miguel Morel explained that the funds, originally seized from the 2016 Bitfinex hack, were transferred to an “unknown” wallet. He noted that on-chain analysis can trace the movement but cannot definitively determine if the government is preparing to sell the assets or simply moving them to a new custodian.
Morel detailed how his firm labels government wallets and tracks corporate Bitcoin treasuries, highlighting the challenges of monitoring funds once they enter certain exchanges. He also discussed the concept of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and how disposal orders from judges factor into government sales.
The movement of such a large sum from a known government stockpile is a significant event for Bitcoin markets, as potential sales can influence supply and price. The ultimate destination and intent behind the transfer remain key questions for traders and analysts monitoring the state’s crypto holdings.
