Satoshi-era Bitcoin — Approximately 100 bitcoin (BTC) mined in July 2010 were transferred on October 8, 2026, after lying dormant for over 16 years, with their value soaring from a few dollars to an estimated $8.5 million.

The coins originated from two direct mining rewards created during Bitcoin’s early “Satoshi era.” While the age of the coins places them in that foundational period, it does not confirm any link to Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

The transaction split the holdings, sending roughly 10 BTC to one blockchain address and about 90.02 BTC to another. The identities of the entities controlling these addresses remain unknown, as do their intentions for the funds, including whether they will be sold on the open market.

Such movements of ancient bitcoin are rare and often capture significant attention within the crypto community, serving as a stark reminder of Bitcoin’s early mining rewards and the immense appreciation the asset has seen since its inception.
