White House Adviser Defends Trump’s Crypto Ties After Clarity Act Defeat

White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt has defended President Donald Trump’s connections to the digital asset industry, arguing that Democrats unfairly politicized the issue to help defeat a major crypto regulatory bill last week.
Witt, the executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, spoke at the Financial Markets Quality conference at Georgetown University. He accused Democratic senators of hypocrisy, suggesting they weaponized Trump’s crypto ties against the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act while recently passing a major housing bill without similar ethical scrutiny, despite the president’s background in real estate.
The adviser contended that the Trump administration’s cooperation on the crypto legislation was unprecedented. The Clarity Act‘s failure in the Senate last week marked a significant setback for establishing a comprehensive U.S. regulatory framework for digital assets.
Witt’s public defense highlights the intensifying political battle over cryptocurrency regulation as the 2026 midterm elections approach, with the issue becoming a focal point for partisan debate.
