Citi Clients Gain Stablecoin Payments via Coinbase Integration

Global banking giant Citi has expanded its partnership with Coinbase to allow its institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments directly into their Citi accounts, the companies announced on September 28, 2026.

The new service, part of Citi’s Treasury and Trade Solutions, enables corporate clients to receive USDC stablecoin payments from counterparties globally. The funds are automatically converted to fiat currency upon receipt and deposited into the client’s Citi account, meaning the client never directly holds or manages the cryptocurrency.

This integration leverages Coinbase’s existing Coinbase Commerce platform for the payment processing, while Citi provides the underlying banking rails and fiat settlement. The service is designed to offer clients faster settlement times and broader access to digital-native counterparties compared to traditional cross-border payment methods.

The expansion builds on a prior relationship where Coinbase uses Citi for its own corporate treasury and cash management. The move signals a continued push by major financial institutions to incorporate digital asset infrastructure for clients seeking efficiency in global transactions.
