Crypto Vault Deposits Surpass $10 Billion Amid Lending Risk Scrutiny

Crypto Vault Deposits — Deposits into crypto lending vaults have surged past $10 billion, more than doubling from $4 billion at the start of 2025, as institutional interest in decentralized finance yield strategies grows.
The vaults, which operate via smart contracts on DeFi platforms, are managed by curators who select lending strategies and set risk parameters, functioning similarly to traditional fund managers. Investors deposit stablecoins and other tokens to earn returns.
This rapid growth is drawing increased attention from U.S. and European regulators. Officials are examining oversight frameworks as the sector faces risks including smart-contract exploits, illiquid collateral, and automatic liquidations that can lead to investor losses.
The expansion highlights the continued institutionalization of DeFi, even as the inherent risks of these automated, curator-managed lending products prompt closer regulatory scrutiny.
