Latvia Plans to Accept Crypto Tax Payments Starting in 2027

crypto tax payments — Latvia plans to allow residents to pay personal taxes with cryptocurrency starting in 2027, as part of a broader overhaul of its digital asset taxation framework.
The initiative, confirmed by Prime Minister’s adviser Didzis Dejus, follows the passage of new tax legislation by the Latvian parliament. The new law simplifies the tax calculation for crypto assets by taxing only the net gains realized upon withdrawal from a wallet or exchange, rather than taxing each individual transaction. It also introduces a one-time declaration mechanism for existing holdings.
The Finance Ministry has reportedly agreed to the plan to accept crypto for tax payments, though technical implementation with a payment provider is still required. The move is part of a strategic effort to attract cryptocurrency firms and investors to the Baltic nation.
The broader legislative package aims to support asset tokenization and position Latvia as a fast-moving fintech hub within the European Union.
