Coinbase Wallet Rebrands to Unify Trading Experience Amid Competition

Coinbase Wallet rebrands — Coinbase has rebranded its self-custody wallet back to its original name, Coinbase Wallet, as part of a new strategy to offer seamless trading across any asset and any blockchain.

The move, announced on September 10, 2026, consolidates the previously separate ‘Coinbase Wallet’ and ‘Wallet’ apps into a single, unified product. Ryan Kass, Head of Product for the wallet, stated the rebrand reflects a broader ambition to enable “anything, anywhere” trading, positioning the wallet as a testing ground for new assets and user experiences.

The strategic shift comes as competition in the retail crypto space intensifies, notably from Robinhood’s recently launched Layer 2 blockchain. The rebrand aims to simplify the user experience and strengthen Coinbase’s integrated ecosystem, connecting its exchange services directly with self-custody options.

By unifying its wallet products, Coinbase seeks to create a more cohesive platform where users can easily move between its centralized services and decentralized applications, a key battleground as major platforms vie for user loyalty and trading volume.
