Sam Callahan Argues Bitcoin’s Success Is Independent of Fed Rate Cuts

Bitcoin's success — Bitcoin proponent Sam Callahan has argued that Bitcoin’s value proposition does not rely on potential Federal Reserve interest rate cuts, citing ongoing currency debasement as a more powerful driver.

In commentary for Bitcoin Magazine, Callahan highlighted the U.S. dollar’s loss of over 20% of its purchasing power in the last five years, according to the Fed’s preferred core PCE inflation gauge. He described the current environment as one of “financial repression,” which he contends works for governments but not for citizens.

Callahan pointed to the historic drawdown in the U.S. bond market and an average core PCE inflation rate of 3.7% as evidence that fiscal policy, or “fiscal dominance,” is a more critical factor for Bitcoin than monetary policy shifts. He argued that the path of currency devaluation makes a compelling case for hard assets.

The analysis suggests that Bitcoin, alongside gold, forms part of a modern framework for monetary reserves, with its fixed supply providing a hedge against the devaluation of fiat currencies irrespective of central bank rate decisions.
