Bitcoin Per Share Metrics Explained for Evaluating Treasury Companies

Understanding the differences between key Bitcoin per share metrics is essential for evaluating the capital structure and value of public Bitcoin treasury companies.
The simplest metric is raw Bitcoin Per Share (BPS), which divides a company’s total bitcoin holdings by its existing common shares. However, this figure does not account for potential dilution from warrants or convertible debt. Bitcoin Per Assumed Diluted Share (BPADS) provides a more conservative view by incorporating shares that would exist if all potentially dilutive securities converted.
A more comprehensive measure is Net Bitcoin Per Share (Net BPS), which deducts the bitcoin equivalent of senior claims, like debt, from total holdings before dividing by the share count. This metric is sensitive to bitcoin’s price, as a higher price means fewer bitcoins are needed to cover fixed dollar obligations, increasing the value attributable to common shareholders.
Analysts note that each calculation provides different information, and investors should understand the limitations of each when assessing a company’s financial health and their potential ownership stake in its bitcoin reserves.
