Bitcoin Life Insurer Meanwhile Raises $37.5M for Global Expansion

Bitcoin life insurer — Meanwhile, a life insurance company operating entirely in Bitcoin, has raised $37.5 million in a funding round led by Bain Capital Crypto to meet growing international demand for its Bitcoin-denominated policies.
The new capital brings Meanwhile’s total funding to over $180 million. The round saw participation from existing investors including Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital.
The company reported a surge in demand for its Bitcoin life insurance products outside the United States, particularly in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. CEO Zac Townsend stated the raise was driven by brokers seeking regulated solutions for wealthy clients looking to pass on Bitcoin holdings to the next generation.
Meanwhile’s flagship product for international clients, BTC Life 1-Pay, is a single-premium whole life policy where premiums and death benefits are paid in Bitcoin. The company has signed 15 brokers serving wealthy families in jurisdictions including Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, and Switzerland.
The insurer, which holds a Bermuda Monetary Authority license, denominates its entire balance sheet, reserves, and financial statements in Bitcoin. The company stated its net long-term underwriting income for 2026 is on track to more than double last year’s total.
