BitBox Wallet Integrates Lightning Network Without New Seed Phrase

BitBox Wallet Integrates Lightning — BitBox hardware wallet users can now create a Lightning Network hot wallet directly within the mobile BitBoxApp, enabling seamless payments without requiring a separate recovery phrase.
The new feature, announced on September 15, 2026, allows users to fund a Lightning wallet directly from their on-chain balance stored on the BitBox hardware device. The Lightning wallet is derived from the user’s existing BitBox backup, meaning no new seed phrase needs to be recorded.
The integration is designed for everyday spending, such as for coffee or invoices, while larger savings remain secured on the hardware wallet. Within the app, users can scan and pay Lightning invoices, send and receive bitcoin, and claim a Lightning address.
The functionality is powered by the Breez SDK, which handles the underlying node and channel management, abstracting the technical complexity from the user. Custody of funds remains with the user throughout the process.
