armed crypto robbery — Two brothers from Texas have been sentenced to over 15 years in federal prison each for kidnapping a family at gunpoint and stealing more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.

Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, both of Waller, Texas, were sentenced to 180 and 186 months respectively on Thursday before US District Judge Donovan W. Frank. The brothers had pleaded guilty in June to charges stemming from a September 2025 incident in Grant, Minnesota.

According to court documents, the brothers traveled from Texas, entered the victim’s home, and zip-tied the family at gunpoint. They held them for over nine hours, demanding access to the victim’s cryptocurrency accounts. When the initial amount transferred was less than expected, they forced the victim to drive to a cabin in upstate Minnesota to access additional devices.

The FBI stated the brothers “violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim, terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours, and disrupted an entire community in a brazen act of violence and greed.” The crime ended when the victim’s son called 911, leading to the brothers’ arrest near Houston.
