Bitcoin Risks Worst October Since 2014 as Tech Rout Spreads to Gold

Bitcoin traded near $77,000 on Friday, October 30, 2026, pressured by a sharp sell-off in U.S. technology stocks and a drop in gold, putting it on track for its worst October performance in twelve years.
BTC/USD was down 1.1% on the day, struggling to hold above $77,000 as the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fell 2.5% to its lowest level since early August. The sell-off was triggered by weak forward guidance from major tech firms, with Intel’s stock plunging nearly 30% after warning of softer Q4 sales.
The contagion spread beyond equities to precious metals, with gold dropping to $3,891 per ounce, its lowest price in a year. Analysis cited “renewed fears over AI Monetization” as a key driver of the risk-asset rotation.
At current levels, Bitcoin is poised to close the month of October with a loss of 7.7%, which would be its weakest October performance since 2014. Trading firm QCP Capital noted that macro conditions, tech-sector fears, and the recent multi-billion dollar Binance hack had created a period of “heightened market repricing” for crypto assets.
