record operating income — MicroStrategy reported a record $20.91 billion in operating income for the third quarter of 2026, driven primarily by a paper gain on its massive bitcoin holdings as the cryptocurrency’s price rallied.

The business intelligence firm’s net income reached $19.53 billion, or $44.75 per diluted share, a substantial increase from $2.79 billion in the same period a year earlier. The company marks its bitcoin to market each quarter, meaning the appreciation of its 848,517 BTC stack during Q3 flowed directly into earnings.

As of October 23, MicroStrategy’s bitcoin holdings were valued at $68.9 billion, with the token trading at $81,200. The company’s average cost per bitcoin is $75,446, leaving the position in the black on paper. Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang, who announced his departure, stated the quarter’s operating income was “the largest ever in MicroStrategy’s history.”

While the bitcoin position showed a paper gain, the company’s bitcoin-per-share metric declined by 3.7% year-to-date as MicroStrategy sold approximately $431.8 million worth of bitcoin this year to fund preferred dividends and stock buybacks. The company ended the quarter with $5.07 billion in dollar reserves.
