XRP Ledger developers propose zero-XRP wallets for stablecoin onboarding

zero-XRP wallets — Developers have proposed a change to the XRP Ledger that would allow users to create wallets without holding any XRP, enabling them to start transacting directly with stablecoins.
The experimental amendment, proposed by RippleX developers, would let companies or service providers cover the mandatory 2-XRP reserve for customer accounts. This would remove the requirement for a user to first acquire XRP before they can use the ledger for payments or other transactions.
The proposal, dubbed “XLS-68d” or “Sponsored Account Creation,” is designed to improve user onboarding. It specifically aims to facilitate use cases where the primary transaction medium is a stablecoin or other issued token, not XRP itself.
If adopted, the change could make the XRP Ledger more accessible for applications focused on payments and decentralized finance (DeFi) by lowering the initial barrier to entry. The proposal is currently in a discussion phase within the XRPL community.
