Bitcoin’s Midterm Election Cycle Pattern Faces a Divergence Test

midterm election cycle — Bitcoin is approaching a period historically linked to major bear-market lows following U.S. midterm elections, but its recent recovery suggests the 2026 cycle may have deviated from this pattern.
Previous bitcoin bottoms occurred 71, 38, and 13 days after the 2014, 2018, and 2022 midterms, respectively. This year, however, the low of $57,850 was recorded on July 1, approximately 125 days before the November 4, 2026, election day.
Since that July low, Bitcoin has recovered roughly 40% to trade around $81,455 as of October 22, despite a 6% decline over the preceding 30 days. This price action raises questions about whether the market has already found its cycle bottom months ahead of the historical post-election schedule.
Analysis suggests Bitcoin’s recurring weakness around midterms may be more closely tied to its internal market cycles than to the elections themselves, as technology stocks represented by the QQQ ETF have shown a less consistent pattern of post-midterm performance.
