HSBC stablecoin RedCoin — HSBC has launched its first Hong Kong dollar-pegged stablecoin, RedCoin, making it available to retail customers through its PayMe app for peer-to-peer and merchant payments.

The bank announced that PayMe users will be able to activate a stablecoin wallet within the application in the coming days. The new feature is designed to facilitate digital payments directly within the existing mobile platform.

RedCoin represents HSBC’s inaugural venture into issuing a retail-facing stablecoin, marking a significant step for the traditional banking giant into the digital asset space for consumer use. The stablecoin is intended to streamline transactions between users and with participating merchants.

The rollout follows a broader trend of financial institutions exploring digital currency offerings, though HSBC’s direct launch to its retail customer base through a widely used app like PayMe is a notable development in the convergence of traditional banking and crypto-native payment rails.
