Bitcoin Recovers to $82,000 as Yen Retreats and Gold Pares Losses

Bitcoin recovers — Bitcoin rebounded to nearly $82,000 during Asian trading on Friday, October 23, 2026, as gold and regional equities recovered and the Japanese yen surrendered early gains.
The cryptocurrency had fallen below $81,000 overnight, testing its 50-day simple moving average. The price bounce coincided with a broader recovery in risk assets, including a rebound in Nasdaq futures. However, persistently high oil prices near $100 per barrel continue to pose an inflation risk that could cap a sustained rally.
The market volatility triggered significant liquidations in the derivatives market. Approximately $435 million in cryptocurrency futures positions were liquidated over 24 hours, with $385 million of that total representing liquidated long, or bullish, bets.
Weak demand for spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds also presents a headwind. These funds recorded $381 million in outflows on Thursday, suggesting a cautious institutional stance that may limit upward momentum for bitcoin and other risk-sensitive assets.
