XRP Ledger Bug Fix Nears Activation as Lending System Lags

XRP Ledger bug fix — A critical bug-fix package for the XRP Ledger is on course to activate this week, while Ripple’s proposed lending system for the network remains stalled in the governance process.
The set of fixes is expected to go live around 09:34 UTC on October 23 after securing the minimum 29 validator votes required for approval. The amendments address several technical issues, including closing a loophole that could allow certain accounts to create tokens when they only had permission to destroy them.
The package also contains patches for Ripple’s proposed uncollateralized lending system, known as the lending and vault amendments. However, that broader lending system itself has not been activated, as it remains 10 votes short of the required threshold, with only 19 and 21 votes for its respective components.
Ripple has been pitching this lending system to banks and payment companies since June as a feature of the XRP Ledger. The upcoming bug fixes will repair parts of that code, but the core functionality cannot be used until validators reach a consensus to enable it.
