stablecoin payments surge — Stablecoin payment volume has jumped 45% year-to-date to $482 billion, according to a new report from analytics firm Allium, as major payment processors Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe integrate crypto services.

The surge in transaction volume comes despite the total circulating supply of stablecoins remaining largely stagnant throughout 2026. The data indicates that the existing digital dollars in circulation are being used more frequently for payments, rather than simply being held.

The growth coincides with a series of announcements this week from the global payment giants. Mastercard, Stripe, and Visa all revealed new services designed to bridge stablecoins with traditional payment systems, effectively connecting crypto to cash.

Businesses are increasingly demanding that stablecoins be integrated directly into their existing financial operations, rather than maintaining separate systems for digital assets, according to the CEO of enterprise payments firm Fipto. This push from corporate users is a key driver behind the payment processors’ move to build crypto rails.
