Trezor Safe 7 — Trezor has released its new Safe 7 hardware wallet, featuring a premium metal design and offering users a choice between a multi-coin firmware or a dedicated, leaner Bitcoin-only version.

The device marks a significant design upgrade from previous plastic models, featuring a metal exterior and a large touchscreen with improved, larger buttons to reduce input errors. A notable user experience feature is a tactile, vibrating confirmation sequence with visual feedback for critical actions like transaction signing.

Firmware choice is a central feature. Users can select a universal multi-coin version or an orange-colored Bitcoin-only firmware, which Trezor states receives fewer updates and carries a reduced risk of bugs. The device allows switching between firmware types post-purchase.

The Safe 7 utilizes a 20-word seed standard based on SLIP-39, enabling Shamir Secret Sharing for creating redundant, distributed backups. This allows users to split their recovery phrase into shards, where only a threshold number is needed to restore the wallet, enhancing physical security against loss or theft.
