Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger to Step Down Next Month

Blockchain Association CEO — The Blockchain Association, a leading cryptocurrency advocacy group in Washington, D.C., will see a change in leadership as CEO Summer Mersinger is set to step down next month.

Kristin Smith, who previously served as the organization’s CEO from 2018 to 2023, will return to the role on an interim basis following Mersinger’s departure. The association’s board of directors has initiated a search for a permanent successor.

Mersinger, a former commissioner and acting chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), assumed the CEO role in January 2024. During her tenure, the association has been actively involved in high-profile regulatory debates and litigation, including lawsuits against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The leadership transition comes as the crypto industry faces ongoing regulatory scrutiny and prepares for potential legislative developments following the 2024 U.S. elections. The Blockchain Association represents over 100 member companies across the digital asset ecosystem.
