Samourai Wallet Developer Details ‘Worst 30 Days’ in Prison Transit

Samourai Wallet developer William Lonergan Hill has published a harrowing first-hand account of his 30-day journey through the U.S. Bureau of Prisons transfer system, describing it as the “absolute worst 30 days” of his life.

In a letter published by Bitcoin Magazine, Hill details being transferred from a minimum-security camp in Morgantown to FCI McKean in early June. What should have been a four-hour drive turned into a month-long ordeal involving trans-continental flights, bus rides, and stays in holding facilities where he was shackled and locked down for 23 hours a day.

Hill recounts being denied a transfer furlough, which would have allowed him to travel at his own expense, and instead being processed through the system. He describes being stripped, searched, and issued ill-fitting clothes before being shackled with chains around his waist, limiting his movement to painful shuffles.

The letter, intended to be published in two parts due to its length, serves as a stark personal narrative from one of the two Samourai Wallet founders currently incarcerated. Hill concludes by urging readers to sign a petition for his and co-developer Keonne Rodriguez’s release.
