BitGo CEO Links Dollar Debasement to K-Shaped Economy, Tokenization

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe argues that dollar debasement is a primary driver of the K-shaped economic recovery, where asset owners thrive while others fall behind, and sees tokenization as a key tool for democratizing financial access.
In an interview with Bitcoin Magazine, Belshe explained that the current financial system, stemming from fixes to the 1960s paper certificate crisis, inherently favors large institutions. He stated that a core inequality stems from retail investors’ inability to borrow against their assets, forcing them to sell for liquidity, while large players can leverage holdings.
Belshe positioned tokenization of assets like equities as a solution to this access problem, moving beyond mere trading to enable new forms of collateralization and proof of ownership. He discussed concepts like “ghost stocks” and time-locking shares as demonstrations of conviction and financial innovation.
The CEO also touched on the role of AI in future asset management and reiterated his critical view on the long-term value of the U.S. dollar, connecting monetary policy to the widening wealth gap that fuels interest in alternative assets like Bitcoin.
