Bitwise to Shut Down Dogecoin ETF BWOW Before First Anniversary
Dogecoin ETF — Asset manager Bitwise will liquidate its spot Dogecoin exchange-traded fund, BWOW, less than a year after its launch, citing insufficient investor demand.
The fund will cease trading on the New York Stock Exchange Arca on October 14, 2026. Bitwise expects to distribute cash to remaining shareholders on or about October 22, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The closure marks a significant retreat for a major crypto asset manager in the meme coin ETF space. BWOW was launched in November 2025, offering investors exposure to the price of Dogecoin without directly holding the cryptocurrency.
The decision underscores the challenges of sustaining a single-asset ETF for a highly volatile cryptocurrency, even one as prominent as Dogecoin. The fund’s liquidation suggests it failed to attract the sustained capital necessary to remain viable in the competitive ETF market.
