Cronos Rolls Back Chain to Reverse $111 Million DeFi Exploit

Cronos Rolls Back — The Cronos blockchain executed a two-hour transaction rollback to reverse a $111.2 million DeFi exploit, a controversial move that also erased legitimate user activity.

According to Cronos, the exploit targeted a vulnerability in the network’s bridge infrastructure, allowing the attacker to mint and withdraw assets. The team stated that the rollback was a necessary emergency measure to protect user funds, though it acknowledged that some valid transactions were also reversed in the process.

Despite the intervention, approximately $9.19 million in assets remains unrecovered. The incident has reignited debate within the crypto community about the trade-offs between decentralization and the ability to intervene during major security events.

Cronos, an Ethereum-compatible blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK and backed by Crypto.com, has not detailed plans for compensating users affected by the collateral damage of the rollback.
