Solana transaction size triples to accommodate complex proofs

Solana transaction size — The Solana network is set to triple its maximum transaction size starting Wednesday, a move designed to give decentralized applications more room for complex operations like zero-knowledge proofs and large multi-signature transactions.

The upgrade, part of the Transaction v1 feature activation, will increase the maximum transaction size from the current limit of 1,232 bytes to 12,288 bytes. This tenfold increase in capacity is intended to allow more sophisticated on-chain logic and data to be processed within a single transaction.

Solana developers say the larger transaction size will enable applications to handle more complex computations directly on-chain, such as advanced cryptographic proofs that currently must be broken into multiple transactions. This could improve the efficiency and user experience for DeFi protocols, gaming applications, and other services built on the network.

The change requires services that read Solana’s blockchain, including block explorers, indexers, and wallet providers, to update their systems to handle the new, larger transaction format. The upgrade is scheduled to activate on September -8, 2026.
