Sovereign Wealth Funds Step Into Bitcoin ETFs as Hedge Funds Exit
Sovereign wealth funds and other long-term institutional investors are now the primary buyers of spot Bitcoin ETFs, stepping in as hedge funds have largely exited the trade, according to a market analysis.
The shift in ownership comes as the U.S.-listed ETFs have seen over $400 million in net inflows this week, pushing the products back into positive territory for the month of October. This sets the stage for a potentially significant November, analysts noted.
The report suggests that hedge funds, which were instrumental in the initial trading frenzy following the ETFs’ launch earlier in the year, have taken profits and reduced their positions. Their exit has created space for sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and other entities with longer investment horizons to establish positions.
This changing of the guard is seen as a maturation of the Bitcoin ETF market, moving from short-term speculative flows to more stable, strategic allocations. The substantial weekly inflows indicate sustained institutional interest despite recent market volatility.
