Robinhood Engineers Charged With Crypto Listing Insider Trading

Robinhood engineers charged — Two former Robinhood engineers have been charged with securities fraud by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly using non-public information about upcoming crypto listings to trade perpetual futures contracts.

The indictment, unsealed September 15, 2026, alleges that Nathaniel Harmon and Suhail Ahmed used their access to confidential company data to trade Hyperliquid perpetual futures contracts for tokens before Robinhood publicly announced they would be listed on its platform. The scheme allegedly ran from May to September 2025.

Prosecutors claim the two men earned more than $50,000 each from the trades. The charges include conspiracy to commit securities fraud and multiple counts of securities fraud. If convicted, they face significant prison sentences.

The case highlights ongoing regulatory scrutiny of insider trading in digital asset markets, particularly concerning employees at major trading platforms who may have advance knowledge of market-moving events like new token listings.
