Revolut hackers demand $3 million in Monero ransom for stolen data

Monero ransom — Hackers are demanding a $3 million ransom in Monero (XMR) from financial app Revolut, threatening to sell stolen customer data if the payment is not made within 24 hours.

The group, calling itself “iamnotavillain,” posted the demand on Wednesday alongside a countdown timer, according to a report by the Financial Times. They have asked Revolut to send 6,000 XMR to a specified address.

The hackers claim to have accessed data from at least 680 customer accounts, including identity documents and transaction histories. They told the FT they used blockchain analysis to specifically target Revolut accounts with significant cryptocurrency holdings.

Revolut stated it has not received any direct contact from the individuals making the demands. The company has previously acknowledged a data breach in 2022 that affected a limited number of users.
