Mastercard Stablecoin Platform Links Digital Balances to Banking and Cards

Mastercard stablecoin platform has launched to connect digital balances with traditional banking and card payments, giving businesses a way to hold, convert, and spend stablecoins through existing financial rails.
The Global Money Platform is Mastercard’s first major integration with BVNK since acquiring the stablecoin infrastructure firm in August. Companies can offer stablecoin-linked cards, move funds directly from stablecoin balances into recipients’ local bank accounts, and route payments through Mastercard Move, which reaches more than 17 billion destinations. The launch gives businesses a single integration point for stablecoin services rather than requiring separate crypto infrastructure.
Nuvei, Marqeta and several fintech firms are among the first partners. The platform also links stablecoin balances to Mastercard’s merchant network, allowing cardholders to spend digital currency with payment cards.
The move shifts Mastercard beyond payment processing into infrastructure that financial institutions can use under their own brands, intensifying competition with Visa, which launched a stablecoin platform in July for holding, minting and transferring tokens. Standard Chartered research notes growing stablecoin transaction activity, while major circulating supplies such as USDt and USDC have stayed relatively flat this year.
