Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, is investing billions to transform into a unified financial infrastructure platform, moving beyond its origins as a trading venue.

Co-CEO Arjun Sethi told CoinDesk that the company is unifying trading, banking, asset management, and institutional services on a single platform and balance sheet. The strategy centers on a “one ledger” system designed to allow seamless movement of money and assets between products, reducing reliance on traditional financial intermediaries.

This expansion has been fueled by significant acquisitions over the past two years, including moves into futures, derivatives, tokenized stocks, and banking services in the U.S. and Europe. Sethi stated that Payward is profitable and not rushing toward an initial public offering as it builds out this broader platform.

Payward’s Infrastructure-First Strategy

Unlike competitors that concentrate services under a single consumer brand, Payward is building infrastructure intended to support multiple brands and be used by external financial companies. According to analysis from investment bank Architect Partners, this positions Payward as a regulated infrastructure stack powering products across various customer segments and partner channels.
