DogeOS Testnet Launches to Bring EVM Smart Contracts to Dogecoin

EVM smart contracts — DogeOS has launched a public testnet for its zero-knowledge rollup, a layer-2 solution designed to bring Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) smart contract functionality to the Dogecoin network.
The new testnet allows developers to deploy and interact with smart contracts on Dogecoin, using the network’s native DOGE token to pay for transaction fees, or gas. This integration aims to expand Dogecoin’s utility beyond its origins as a payment-focused meme coin.
The DogeOS rollup uses zero-knowledge proof technology to bundle transactions off-chain before settling them on the Dogecoin mainnet, a method intended to improve scalability and reduce costs. The launch marks a significant technical step in bridging the ecosystems of Dogecoin and Ethereum.
While currently in testnet phase, a successful implementation could unlock decentralized finance (DeFi) and other Web3 applications for the large Dogecoin community, potentially impacting the token’s market dynamics and use cases.
