Ether Liquidations Hit Six Times Bitcoin’s Rate in $1 Billion Crypto Flush

Ether liquidations — Ether traders suffered significantly higher liquidations than bitcoin traders during a broad market sell-off, with $356 million in ETH positions wiped out over 24 hours compared to $298 million for BTC.
Total liquidations across the crypto market reached $1.19 billion, with more than $1 billion coming from long positions. The flush was triggered by a combination of macroeconomic concerns, including interest-rate fears and geopolitical tensions, which rattled leveraged derivatives markets.
Despite having a market capitalization less than one-fifth the size of bitcoin’s, ether’s liquidation volume was roughly 20% higher. This indicates a disproportionate level of leverage and risk-taking concentrated in the ETH market during the recent volatility.
Bitcoin later rebounded to around $82,200 after geopolitical news, which triggered a separate, smaller wave of liquidations—roughly $25 million over four hours—predominantly affecting bearish traders.
