Crypto PAC Fairshake’s $1 Million Fails to Save Key House Ally Huizenga

Crypto PAC Fairshake — Republican Representative Bill Huizenga, a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, has lost his reelection bid despite approximately $1 million in support from the crypto super PAC Fairshake.
Huizenga, the committee’s vice chair, was defeated by Democrat Sean McCann in Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. Fairshake had committed at least $1 million each to six House incumbents, including Huizenga and Digital Assets Subcommittee Chair Bryan Steil, who also lost his race. The super PAC network had entered the election cycle with over $120 million in cash.
The losses come as Democrats won control of the House, which will shift the Financial Services Committee chairmanship to Democrat Maxine Waters. Huizenga and Steil were key Republican architects of crypto legislation, including the stablecoin bill signed in 2025 and investigations into the SEC.
Despite the heavy spending, crypto-backed incumbents faced a highly competitive environment; outside groups reported more than $25 million in spending in Huizenga’s district alone. The industry’s primary legislative goal, the CLARITY Act, failed a Senate vote in September, and House Democrats are now weighing their own market structure bill.
