Thailand SEC reports crypto ETF interest but awaits first formal application

crypto ETF interest — Thailand’s securities regulator says several asset managers have inquired about launching spot cryptocurrency ETFs under a new framework, but no formal applications have yet been submitted.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) confirmed to Cointelegraph that multiple companies have sought consultations about establishing the funds. However, the regulator stated it “cannot confirm whether the first funds will launch in 2026,” as approval timing depends on applicant readiness and regulatory reviews.
Thailand’s rules for locally listed spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs officially took effect on October 21, 2026. The SEC did not name the asset management firms that have expressed interest.
Thai investors already have some access to Bitcoin through funds linked to overseas ETFs. ONE Asset Management secured approval for a Bitcoin ETF-linked fund in 2024, and MFC Asset Management later launched a fund investing via BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust.
