CFTC probe Polymarket — The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has reopened an investigation into prediction market platform Polymarket to determine if it violated a 2022 settlement by allowing American users to trade, according to a report.

The probe, first reported by Reuters, revives an inquiry the CFTC closed last year without charges. It focuses on whether Polymarket’s geofencing tools adequately blocked US users from its offshore exchange following the 2022 agreement, which required such blocking and carried a $1.4 million penalty.

Investigators are reportedly examining three specific areas: the adequacy of the platform’s location controls, its advertising activities within the United States, and customer protections on its US-based platform, which launched in late 2025. The investigation remains an inquiry and does not imply wrongdoing.

The scrutiny comes as Polymarket has grown significantly, attracting a major investment from Intercontinental Exchange in 2025. The platform, which began accepting Bitcoin deposits that same year, has faced broader regulatory attention, including calls from US senators for a probe and a separate insider trading case involving a US service member.
