CFTC prediction markets — The National Basketball Association (NBA) has signed an information-sharing agreement with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and named crypto-based prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket as its preferred partners.

The deal, announced on October 26, 2026, makes the NBA the latest major U.S. sports league to formally engage with regulated event-contract markets. The league will share information with the CFTC to support market integrity and has entered commercial partnerships with the two prediction market firms.

The move aligns the NBA with Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League, which have secured similar arrangements. The CFTC has been actively gathering support from sports leagues as it champions the growth of regulated prediction markets, which it oversees as derivatives contracts.

In contrast, the National Football League (NFL) has openly rebuffed such agreements, siding with states that argue their existing gambling laws should govern sports betting activities instead of federal derivatives regulation.
