JPMorgan Sees Bitcoin Gaining More Support Than Gold From ETF Hedging

Bitcoin ETF hedging — Bitcoin could receive more price support than gold if investors reduce their hedging activity around spot ETFs, according to an analysis from JPMorgan.

The bank’s analysts noted that the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States earlier this year led to significant futures and options hedging by authorized participants and market makers. This hedging activity has created a persistent headwind for the cryptocurrency’s price.

If this hedging demand subsides as the market matures, JPMorgan suggests the resulting net flow into Bitcoin could be proportionally larger than similar flows into gold. The analysts pointed to gold’s established ETF market, where hedging is less prevalent, as a comparative benchmark.

The report highlights the evolving dynamics of institutional participation in crypto markets, where derivative activity linked to new financial products can have a pronounced impact on the underlying asset’s price discovery and volatility.
