Deutsche Bank to Launch Bitcoin Custody for Institutional Clients in 2024

Deutsche Bank announced on Wednesday that it will launch a bitcoin custody service for its corporate and institutional clients in Europe later this year, pending final regulatory approval.

The German multinational bank stated the service will support a “selected range of digital assets,” including bitcoin and stablecoins, with plans to expand the offering over time based on client demand. Tokenized financial instruments are also part of the bank’s long-term roadmap.

Gerald Podobnik, Co-Head of the Corporate Bank at Deutsche Bank, framed digital assets as a complement to traditional finance, stating the bank aims to provide “a secure and regulated gateway to this evolving market.” The move follows a trend of major banks like BNY Mellon, Citigroup, and Standard Chartered launching similar custody services over the past 18 months.

Reports from 2025 indicated Deutsche Bank was developing the service by integrating Bitpanda’s custody infrastructure and working with Taurus to build the solution. The announcement comes just weeks after Citigroup revealed its own plans to debut a bitcoin custody service for institutional investors in 2024.
