Tether and Tron’s Anti-Crime Alliance T3 Ended Before $6.3B Binance Hack

anti-crime alliance T3 — The T3 Financial Crime Unit, an alliance between Tron, Tether, and TRM Labs, was quietly terminated in late August 2026, about two months before the record $6.34 billion Binance hack, Bloomberg has reported.
The anti-crime partnership, launched in late 2024 and later joined by Binance, reportedly broke down over slow response times and a lack of coordination among its members. The firms confirmed the initiative had concluded but did not comment on specifics.
Tron and Tether have stated commitments to other anti-crime efforts. Tron plans to announce a new initiative, while Tether pointed to its ongoing work with TRM’s Beacon Network and the new FASE Foundation.
The T3 unit had frozen over $450 million in illicit assets and was cited by global watchdog FATF as a leading enforcement model. Its dissolution predated a hack where the Tron blockchain became a primary laundering route, though Tether subsequently froze over $1.5 billion in stolen USDT unilaterally.
