Bithumb Hackers Accessed Internal System, Leaking Personal Data

Bithumb Hackers — South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has disclosed that hackers accessed its internal system, leading to a leak of personal data.

The exchange, one of the largest in South Korea, stated it is currently investigating whether customer information was exposed in the breach. The incident was reported on October 28, 2026.

Bithumb’s announcement comes as two other unnamed financial firms have also reported data breaches, suggesting a possible coordinated attack or a widespread vulnerability being exploited. The exchange has not yet detailed the specific type of personal data that was leaked or the number of users potentially affected.

Security breaches involving user data remain a critical concern for centralized crypto exchanges, which hold significant amounts of sensitive customer information. Bithumb has faced previous security incidents, including a major hack in 2018.
