a16z Drops Crypto From Fund Name to Pursue AI and Frontier Tech

Venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has rebranded its flagship crypto fund to ‘a16z Frontier’ and is widening its investment mandate to include artificial intelligence, autonomous machines, and biology.

The firm announced the change on October 22, stating that the distinction between crypto and other frontier technologies has become increasingly blurred. The move signifies a strategic expansion beyond the firm’s deep roots in digital assets.

While the crypto fund’s name is changing, a16z emphasized it remains committed to the sector. The firm stated its crypto team will continue to operate within the new, broader Frontier fund structure.

The rebranding reflects a broader industry trend of major investment firms diversifying their technology portfolios as AI and other advanced technologies gain prominence alongside blockchain-based innovations.
