Trump’s White House cybercrime roundtable avoids ‘crypto’ term

cybercrime roundtable — US President Donald Trump hosted a White House roundtable on cybercrime, detailing billions in losses but notably avoiding the term ‘cryptocurrency’.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Trump stated that Americans lost over $20 billion to cybercrime in 2025 through various schemes. He said federal officials had frozen $1 billion in “cybercurrency tied to foreign scammers” and prevented $1.6 billion in losses following a March executive order. Neither the President nor Attorney General Todd Blanche explicitly used the terms “cryptocurrency” or “digital assets.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation separately reported that Americans lost $11 billion in 2025 from scams specifically related to digital assets. The roundtable followed reports of Italian police arresting 30 people for using crypto to launder money through a bank allegedly tied to the mafia.
Trump and his family are linked to several crypto ventures, which a Public Citizen report alleges netted him $1.4 billion in 2025 while costing investors about $4.7 billion. His memecoin project, Official Trump (TRUMP), is hosting another dinner for tokenholders on November 22.
