Bitcoin outperforming most assets — JPMorgan Chase’s asset management division forecasts that Bitcoin could outperform most major asset classes over the next ten years, though it still deems the cryptocurrency too volatile for a strategic portfolio recommendation.

In its 2027 “Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions” report, the bank stated that while Bitcoin’s price volatility has decreased, it is “premature to consider BTC as a diversifier in a balanced portfolio.” The report described Bitcoin as a “speculative asset and a hedge against monetary easing” that currently lacks a stable correlation to other asset classes.

The analysis presented a base case showing Bitcoin’s projected returns exceeding those of stocks, bonds, and gold. However, it cautioned that the coin’s volatility could undermine its portfolio role. The bank suggested this could change if volatility continues to decline and correlations stabilize, particularly as regulatory clarity improves and market liquidity grows.

For now, JPMorgan’s report characterizes Bitcoin as trading primarily like a “high beta risk asset” that tracks global money supply growth. The assessment comes despite the bank’s CEO, Jamie Dimon, being a long-time public skeptic of Bitcoin, having previously criticized it as a speculative tool.
