Qubic blockchain resumes operation after $1.4 million wallet hack

blockchain-network

Qubic blockchain — The Qubic layer-1 blockchain has restarted its network and opened a claims process for users after a vulnerability led to the theft of roughly $1.4 million in QU tokens.

The network resumed processing ticks on October 19, advancing past the tick where it was halted on Sunday to prevent further movement of stolen funds. The project’s validators, known as Computors, approved a recovery plan.

A vulnerability in the project’s web wallet software, specifically an insecure random-number generator on certain Apple devices and browsers, allowed an attacker to generate predictable wallet seeds. This resulted in the draining of funds from 1,404 accounts.

Qubic has launched a reclaim platform where affected users can check their address and submit a claim. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2027. The team advises all users who created a wallet before version 4.26.4 of the web wallet to treat it as insecure, update immediately, and move funds to a newly generated wallet.
